    Search and update form

I am fairly new to access. I am using Access 2007 - Windows 7. I have a membership table and among the fields are Call, LastName, and FirstName.

I have designed a form for the table that shows all the fields. I want to be able to search and display a particular record then update it based on Call or LastName and FirstName. One of those fields may or may not be present.

The Table name is called Main Sheet and the form name is called Look Up.

I have spent hours researching this problem. Can someone please help me.

Searching for record is common topic. Access has intrinsic tools for that. Otherwise, need code.

What do you mean by 'update' - you want to edit record?

Yes. I will need to make changes to the records like membership payments, class updates, addresses, etc.

Why would you need to edit Membership table for entering payments?

What is your db structure? If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

BTW, "Call" is a reserved word in Access and shouldn't be used for object names.

I hope I did this right. Here is the sheet without any Data in it. Call is short for Call Sign. Membership payments are kept for each year. The payment should show as an updated field that will show the last year paid. You would to be paid for that year to vote.

That is my next problem! I thought we could do the whole thing with Excel but then I was handed some other features so I have to use Access.

What you have is 'committing spreadsheet' - this is not a relational database. If you need to keep history of payments (date, payment type, amount), you will need more tables.

You may need a better understanding of relational database principles before proceeding. Here is a good tutorial site that should quickly get you familiar with basics: http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/

If you want to go beyond the intrinsic search/filter tools and use code, here is one approach using VBA http://www.allenbrowne.com/ser-62.html.

Will there be multiple simultaneous users of this db?
