    Access Database Question

I've just been tasked with setting up a database and I don't have the slightest idea how to do it.

What I really want is somebody who is willing and able to talk me through it?

What can you do to help?

It sounds like what you need is to hire a consultant that is willing to mentor you while they create your application. There are plenty of resources here and other places online to "learn how". The thing is, it will take a while to learn how to do it (months). Without guidance, it will take longer.

No. That is not what I want. I want somebody with a moderate amount of Access experience to tutor me through a fairly simple database voluntarily. Preferably through email. It will not take months, it will take about an hour. Don't be ridiculous.

Sorry, it is not a voluntary thing. Sometimes it just happens.

That kind of attitude won't get you very far. If you are so knowledgable about how long it will take, perhaps you don't need us after all...

I presume you have already done an analysis to determine which is the best db for you and the most appropriate front end (vis a vis data security, scaleability, number of users, basis of data access, OS, types of devices to be used etc) and decided Access is the best solution for your needs. If so this will get you started

Here are some beginner videos I watched. I only watched the MS Access 2010 set of videos and i think they will get you up and running with the basics you need.

how can we help you if you don't help yourself. You want to make a database. Ill tell you how now. Open access click new. DONE. that's exactly what you just asked for. If you wanted more you should describe your business and your needs.

If you cant describe it we cant build it. Isn't that right Orange.

Thank you very much Ajax and MunroeM for writing helpful responses. With the help of a few videos I have now almost completed the database.

As to everybody else, well done, you have helped to contribute to the largest percentage of user-hostile unhelpful responses I have yet received on my first attempt at asking a question on a forum.

A completed database without your help? Yes, it turns out, I didn't need your help after all.

And, with regards to your impertinent response, to ask for help is not the same thing as pleading stupidity. Obviously I knew something about the project. It's stupid of you to respond as if I had to be completely stupid.

I didn't say you were stupid. I referred to your own words, which I see that I have to explain to you. Basically, I referred to your hostility. I'll leave it to others to infer from your responses if you are anything else as well.
