I have been thinking it is Access. However, the more applications you install on the O.S. the more opportunity you have for conflicts. For example, I do not install my Adobe software on the same machine as my Visual Studio or SQL server. It did not used to be an issue. The newer versions do not seem to play well together.

I have been hesitant to offer advice because it is easy to goof stuff up. I would say that if you are contemplating uninstalling Access and then reinstalling it, you might, first, try another Access repair. Only this time, move some application files around (like into a temp folder).

I am guessing at the directory, mine is a little different than yours. Mine uses 15 vs. yours that is 14. And there may be another small nuance. However, you said yours matched the path/directory I mentioned previously. Anyway, before you decide to uninstall Access, you might try moving some files that are located in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\ACCWIZ\

In this directory are some Access databases that the wizard uses. Using the Repair process for Access (even if Access is on your Office DVD) should add those files if they are missing. Creating a new folder in the same directory and moving the DB files into your New Folder might trick the Repair Process into replacing these.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to login as Administrator. Copying/Moving files can have an affect on Ownership of files.

Next update. I tried another restore point after having success with the restore on my wife's computer. Now I able to export the query as I've always done. This restore was more intense and took much longer than the other. During the restore I received an error that my system would not restart and had to click okay. As I mentioned, there seems to have been a lot of Win 7 updates the past couple of weeks.

What is the take-away today? Is there something I can do to prevent this in the future? Should I make more frequent restore points or ? I'm a long time use of Access, but I'm still a novice. Now that I've retired I would like to learn more about it. Do you know any mentors? I would appreciate an concluding thoughts or recommendations. You have no idea how much I've appreciated chatting with you today and how much it means to me that someone would take their time to help me.

I am not sure what you can do to prevent it other than to monitor/limit what applications get installed on your computer(s). Creating restore points is definitely a plus.

If you are looking to learn Access, there are members here that are willing to help answer questions you post. There are many approaches to learning and many resources. Specifically regarding a mentor, you would likely have to hire someone. So you will probably do best by asking questions here and working through various tutorials and labs via books, etc. If you desire a dedicated mentor, hiring a consultant to develop an application for you would be best. As long as they are willing to involve you with the process, have the time, etc.

I created a few videos. They are free to download. It is something I started, but have not made any lately. I got busy with a few things and I am not sure what direction to go with them.

One thing to recognize is how important relational database theory is. So, get that down before building yourself into a corner. I suggest creating some short term goals and some long term goals. Then, communicate your goals so others can guide you.

Thank you again for your help. Having someone to bounce questions off was very important today.

I former co-worked helped with me relational database theory. I understand it. I just need to start working with it and learning more as I go along. The consultant would certainly be easier and probably costly. It would be more fun doing what I can myself. My project will hinge our web guy and if can help me with my plans.

I'll take a look at your videos. That was nice putting them together. I've found you repeat 10 times what you share.

The only way to learn is to get your hands dirty. However, if someone who is experienced lays out the foundation and includes you in the process, it will be a lot better. Otherwise, you will get frustrated and not learn as quickly. I say start by building an Entity Relational Diagram out on paper. There are many tutorials out there. Get a plan on paper and define your personal goals as well. If you do not have a direction, you will be flooded with information and not know where to focus your time.

You will need to understand naming conventions

Thanks for the tutorials. I agree with you about getting your hand dirty. I'll pull my notes. Is this something I could work through with this forum? My project involves carousels and amusement parks. A carousel could have been located in more than one park and a park could have had more than one carousel over the life of the park. This is the basic foundation for the project. I'm sure it sounds more simple than it is.

Guess what? Windows updated last night and now I'm having the same issue. There must be an issue with one of the Office updates. This is frustrating!

At least you know it is one of the Updates. It is my experience that Windows Updates do not cause issues. If they do, it is because of a conflict with a third party app. I usually opt not to install 'Recommended Updates'. Most of the recommended updates are hardware driver related. I would start by isolating any Recommended Updates from the Security Updates.

This is the basic foundation for the project. I'm sure it sounds more simple than it is.
Actually, it sounds rather complicated. In a separate list, I would brainstorm Objectives of the Application and Business Rules. For instance, one objective may be to track maintenance of and this objective's business rules requires managing dates of various types of maintenance. With your brainstorm list, you can start to identify Entities and get your Entities diagramed.

You can absolutely work through this using this forum. However, you will need additional resources. With a clear objective and experience how, you will be able to ask better questions and communicating with the forum will be more efficient. One of the most difficult things to do is to bite off little pieces and work on small aspects of a larger project. This takes experience.
