Lining up controls and main form and subform.

I have some controls that I want to line up. Some are on the main form and some are on a subform. My questions is how do I do it? I normally

select all of the controls then click on align and align top and left. Will that work here?

Again some controls on main and rest on subform.

    Thanks in advance.

    No, that will not work.

You will just have to position controls manually by trial and error until you get the arrangement you want.

Inspection and trial and error seems like it is doomed to be very time consuming. Can I create a drop down line from the ruler, hold or lock it in place (I am not sure how) and line all controls up to this line.

    Thanks in advance.

No, the ruler line cannot be 'locked'. You can draw a graphic line control.

Not sure a line will help much. Be aware that subform has its own rulers. This can be misleading when trying to do the alignment you want. Even though the rulers takes up space in design and appear to 'push' controls right/down, in form view they do not display and the controls shift left/up. Same for the section bars, things appear to push down.

Same issue building reports. I had to turn rulers off at one point in my report design so I could better determine position of subreport. The scroll bars in design can also be a little annoying. I have some subreports that in design view I can't see all controls but in report view everything shows up. I even have several subreports overlapping in design view but in report view everything lines up.

Lot of tedious trial and error.
