Question Can't insert linked Word object in database since Windows 10

    Hi,

Since Windows 10 Pro (64 bits) is installed on my Fujitsu Lifebook T734, MS Access 2007 freeze after I had insert (linked) a MS Word 2007 file in my database. That was not occuring with Windows 8.1 Pro.

The only manner to continue is to restart Access. But in closing Access, a windows open, informing me than:
" Impossible to record these data for now
Access has may be met an error in doing this operation.

If you close this object now, the modifications will be lost.
Would you always close the object of the database?"

What can cause that? Is someone has an idea?

    Thank you!

You don't say what the user is doing when the problem occurs. Maybe it's an API call that no longer works in Windows 10...
I believe Access 2007 is 32 bit. Is your version of Office 64 or 32 bit? I've read that you can run 64 bit Windows and 32 bit Office (actually, MS advises it) but I'm not sure Access 2007 32 bit will run in 64 bit Office as is. The simplest fix I read was to back up the db file, then compile it with a command line switch such as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\MSACCESS.EXE /decompile for example. You don't want any code to run during this operation, so this is not the same as opening the database in design mode and choosing the 'compile' option. You would have to figure out your path to Access executable.

    Hi Micron,

    Thank you for your answer.

I have a 32 bit Office and 64 bit Windows 10 Pro system. Before I upgrade the system with Windows 10 Pro, I had 32 bit Office and 64 bit Windows 8.1 Pro system, and everything was fine with Access.

Since I am a novice in data processing, I didn't understand concepts about decompiling and Access executable. Can you give me more details please?

    Thank you!

My info was not about making a database executable in Access if that's what you're thinking (there really is no such thing). Google "how to open Access database with decompile switch" otherwise I'm just repeating info that is available in many places. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\MSACCESS.EXE /decompile is part of the command line you will use to do this. The .EXE portion is the Access program executable.

    Hi,

I tried to make steps you suggested with my database, but the problem is same.

I received with other files format like PSD, that I try to link in my database, other errors windows information:

"The OLE servor is not enroll.
To enroll it, install it again."

    or

"A problem occurs when it's time to access to the OLE object.
The OLE object is maybe registred in a linked object, but the file is not available. Active OLE servor outside of MS Access, then open the file within OLE object to verify if it still exist and is available."

But I don't know how to do that.

Do you have an other idea?

    Thanks a lot!

No, sorry. I think your problem exceeds my level of knowledge. If you don't get any satisfaction in this forum, try Googling your problem with several variations on key words.
