How to edit a copy of a text field while maintaining the unaltered original

Hello,
I have a field for a "course description". I would like the user to view that course description on a form and then have the same text appear beside it, under another field name, and be able to edit that copy (if necessary) without altering the original.



The same process would be repeated a number of other times -- Course title, presenter bio, etc.

Can you give me some ideas about how to set this up?

This is a new one!

Would require code to populate an unbound textbox with the existing value. What do you want to happen with the edited text in the unbound textbox?

I want to save the newly edited text in a field in a table, which is there but currently empty. In other words, bind the unbound textbox to another field.

(A bit of my reasoning, we want to be able to edit/shorten and save submitted course descriptions -- but still have the original submission, in case the someone (e.g., the submitter) doesn't like the editing and we have to start over. So: original field name: Description edited description name: ShortDescription)

Okay, then exactly what is issue? Bind textboxes to the two fields.

If you want to be able to see existing ShortDescription as well as user edits of that value, back to the unbound textbox and code to save the edited version to replace the old ShortDescription.

Regardless, at some point the original value in a field gets replaced and is lost. Unless you want to do something like an audit log http://allenbrowne.com/AppAudit.html.

I don't see the latest reply to my question here, but with that suggestion, I solved the problem:
I included both fields as bound textboxes in the form: the [OriginalText] and the [TextToEdit].
In the form's "On Current" I entered this line of code:
If IsNull (Me!TextToEdit) Then Me.TextToEdit = Me.OriginalText

Do you only want to store the last two descriptions, submitted, or if the description has been revised 5 times do you want to store all 6 versions, which is to say the original description plus the 5 revisions?
