    Rental Inventory Database Design

    Hello all,

    I am looking for ideas on how to design a rental inventory tracking system with Access 2013. I am looking to allocate units to go to different events. Checking in and out and knowing where the units are located is the root idea.

    Each unit has a company ID and lives in a case for transportation. Cases have company ID's also. Units switch cases from time to time. Each case has a weight and individual units have their own weight.

    We want to look at a sheet with our master inventory. From there, we decide where each unit will live in a case and where each case with units will go for the event. From there, we generate a report with the inventory and weight of all inventory for each event.

    Any ideas? If there is anything not clear about the idea, please let me know.

    Thank you!

    Your not really asking a question. You are asking for a database. Try the Microsoft site for an already designed db template that fits your needs. You might find one that you can modify slightly and augment with your reporting.

    Your basic requirements seem similar to a library.
    Units === Books
    Rental === Loan
    Events === LoanDate/ DueDate
    Checkin/CheckOut===OnBookshelf/OnLoan

    Not exactly, but similar concepts.

    There is a free, generic model here. May be a good starting point.
