Date was defined as a 'Literal'

I am currently the new owner of a sql statement that has a some dates defined as a literal. I need to run a query and produce a date comparison. Anyone out there know how I can do it without redefining an extremely complicated statement. The date that I am trying to compare against is defined as 'date'.

they aren't defined as literal, that's just the display format. Literal dates are yyyy-mm-dd. The source field, if it is a date field, should still respond to the dateadd, datediff functions.
