How to show next available record number

Hi is it possible to have a box of some kind in my form showing me what the next available customerID is so its not overwritten.

I have a Customer Table and when I input details I write a number to uniquely do this. Don't want an autonumber as I want a specific numberrun.

Basically everytime I select the form it tells me the next available number. Also is there a way of placing a search button to bring up details of an already recorded customer

How could you overwrite the next available customerID - there would not be a record to overwrite.

But yes, a box could show the next available. What do you mean by "I write" - you are manually typing in the new CustomerID into new record? Generating custom unique identifier is a common topic in forum.

And yes, an UNBOUND control (such as textbox) could be used to input CustomerID to search for existing record. Review:
