    Post Need basic help

    Hi Experts

I am relatively new to Microsoft access and would like to learn little bit about it. I recently received a tool which is in .mdb extension. I am able to open it, but when I try to find Microsoft access tool within my system, I am fail to do that. I also tried open this file and to see what is there on its backend/admin section but failed to do that. I tried searching out on google, but didn't find any solution to my question. Could someone please guide me with this.

    Regards,
    JD

What do you mean by "when I try to find Microsoft access tool within my system, I am fail to do that." Does your access not open the database? What does the message say?

    Hi Ranman and TIG

Thanks for replying back on the above thread.

TIG - Let me make it bit clear - I received a tool and it is prepared in access and its extension is ".mdb". I think even there is a macro used in this tool. When I double click the tool it opens with a message of trust center and when I click yes, the ribbon of the access gets disble and a white screen with few options pop-up. When I click proceed then the DB shows up.

I want to check what coding is done at the backstage of the tool. I am not able to open it any way. As per your query "when I try to find Microsoft access tool within my system, I am fail to do that" I mean that the way we access excel and enable its developer tab and check the backend of the macro. In the same passion how can we use Microsoft access.

When I try to open the access tool it gets open in my machine and I presume that the access is installed in my machine, but when I try to find it my machine I am unable to track it. I want to know is there anyother way to do that.

Ranman - I am relatively new to access and would required the info in much detail. I open the tool and try to perform the above operation that is Shift ker down, but nothing hapens.

    Regards,
    JD

Ranman suggested you hold down the shift while the db opens, not after then you can explore the db without restriction.

Press shift key and hold it down then open the db, continuing to hold the shift key down until the db is fully open. This will prevent automated processes from executing.

Sounds like need to set the db as trusted or disable macro warning. Whichever you choose, I think each user will have to do this in their Access app.

File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > choose Macro Settings or Trusted Locations

You held down the shift key?

You are trying to open an MDB with Access 2010/2013 - this should be okay but can fail. If you want to provide the db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

    Hi June

Yes, I am using the Shift key, but nothing happens.. I have no issue with the tool it is working fine. I just want to know how can I access its backend to see how exactly it is created and if I need to tweak the function how can I do that..

    JD

As we said, holding down the shift should prevent automatic code from executing and then you should be able to see the Navigation Pane. The linked tables should be listed there and when you hover cursor over a table, its file path should popup.

However, if this db is not actually an mdb or accdb file but an mde/accde instead, can't open in developer mode - it is an executable file and you can't 'explore' anything.

Is this even a split design database?
