Edit a hyperlink in a "Locked" database

Here's the problem: I have a hyperlink field that works fine. I can insert a name, say "File", right click and follow the shortcut menu to Edit Hyperlink where the address can be updated. However, when I disable the shortcut menus and lock the database the user can't edit the hyperlink. I tried to overcome this by creating a new Hyperlink tab with a hyperlink button, however editing the hyperlink still isn't an option (it's grayed out).

I'm thinking I'll have to create a custom shortcut menu with the edit hyperlink function active but I'm hoping there's an easier solution because I have no clue how to create a custom menu.

Another option might be to not use Hyperlink field and use text field instead. Of course, this means the Hyperlink dialog won't work.
