Why click "Not Show"?

I'm trying to understand the logic behind "Not Showing" a particular query result. After all, you can either choose to have them on the forms or reports or not. So, to what end is it relevant to "Not Show" and why?

I did notice that if you want to query multi-value fields, you have to click "Not Show" in order to get the desired result - though, I am not sure why.

You mean not showing a field? Normally, personal preference is the logic. If a field is used in a query strictly to filter records and the data is not required for display on form or report, perhaps user wants a less cluttered query when opened. Also, form and report build wizards will not create controls bound to the field. However, if you are applying filter to multi-value field, apparently it is not an option.

I NEVER use multi-value fields.

It would also be more efficient; less data being sent over the network.
