    updating using relationships

Is it possible to take information from a table imported from Excel and update that information in an existing table in Access?

My teachers updated their caseload information in Excel, they didn't include all of the information that I need for my records and I am just trying to keep from re-entering all of the data into Access.

    Thanks,
    Sheree

Seems possible, especially if you imported the Excel data into Access.

Can you give a few more details? How many tables are involved?
Can you show table layout for
    a) what you have
    b) what you need?

Thank you! Two tables....one has VI tcher, student name, school, hours...the main table has that info plus much more! The table I imported from Excel has UPDATED hours and teachers assigned to students....so I was hoping I would be able to somehow use the common student field to update the teacher and hours fields.

Perhaps you could show a record or two showing what is in the import; and what you want to append.
Access works best with Normalized tables.

That's the other part of my problem....I know just enough to be dangerous....I may have to take a class!!!

The 14-15 VI Proposed is the Excel worksheet that I imported....the Student Data is my ongoing database...the one that has ALL of the fields that I need already in it....just out of date information. I have 350 records (student names).

Dangerous! Well the cure for that is to work through a tutorial -that already has answers. Here is a tutorial that you should work through to understand some database design concepts. It is well worth the effort and, as I said, it has answers.

    Good luck.
