    Your Suggestion About Database

    Folks:

Please forgive me if you think my question is stupid. Basically, my manager wanted me to find a simple software to keep track of the work order in maintenance department. I'm thinking to create a database in Access. However, I have no experience at all designing a database. So, what do you suggest? Should I spend time to learn and dig into it or should I just forget it?

    Thanks.

Access is appropriate tool but learning it and building from scratch could take quite a bit of time. Suggest to make an informed decision you spend at least a weekend with an introductory tutorial (book or on-line).

There are some template databases provided by MS (and other sources) that might suit your requirements.

    June7,

I have the passion to do it and I have maybe another month to give it a try since the software I found considered a little over the budget. However, I am not a programmer although I have some visual basic knowledge when I was in college.

Thanks for your advice. I am watching the youtube 'indentify the relationships between entities'.

Database can be designed without any code - I have one very small db without a scrap of code (no macros and no VBA) because the users asked for that. This requires users to be familiar with intrinsic Access utilities and trust that the users will not screw up db because they have full accessibility to everything.

The more 'user friendly' the more code.
