Database for DOT Hours of Service

I am the IT Administrator for an oilfield trucking company and I am trying to build a database to manually enter Drivers Logs for all company CDL Drivers. I am unfortunately not the best with using Access, and have been looking on the internet for some help, but have not been able to find any solution to my problems. The main problem that I need help with is a way to enter time from the Driver Log. There are 4 types of duty states: Off Duty, Sleeper Berth, Driving, & On Duty ( Not Driving ). The log goes from 12 am to 12 am ( 24 hour period for the day ).

An example of time on a log is this:
    Off Duty: 0000 - 0600 ( 6.0 hours )
    On Duty: 0600 - 0730 ( 1.5 hours )
    Driving: 0730 - 0930 ( 2.0 hours )
    On Duty: 0930 - 1000 ( 0.5 hours )
    Driving: 1000 - 1800 ( 8.0 hours )
    Off Duty: 1800 - 0000 ( 6.0 hours )

    Total Off Duty: 12.0 hours
    Total Driving: 10.0 hours
    Total On Duty: 2.0 hours

I need a way to enter the time as shown. In addition there is another thing that I need to be able to track. Within the DOT ( Department of Transportation ) Compliance for our company a driver is only allowed to be on duty for a total of 14 hours ( of which only 11 of those hours are allowed for driving ), and is required to be off duty for 10 hours before the next time that he is either driving or on duty. We call it the 14/11/10 rule for our compliance. I need a way to track that they have had their 10 hour rest before going back on duty. The last aspect of this is the 70 hour rule. After a CDL driver has worked 70 hours, they are required to have at least a 24 hour "reset" before they are allowed to be back on duty or driving.

I know that this is a lot of stuff that I am asking for, but I have been working on this for over a week now, watching tutorials on database design and building, and there is nothing that I am able to find that comes close to what I am needing to make the database do. I would appreciate any comments or help with my design, and possible programming issues.

IMHO, time keeping/management is one of the more difficult types of databases to design.

Bing: Access database truck driver log

    Might explore:

http://www.blueclaw-db.com/truck_dri...r_analysis.htm - looks someone has already 'invented the wheel' for you, how much you would have to pay for it I can't say, but probably less than the cost of your time. I've seen a lot of free and helpful stuff by Blue Claw but no direct contact with the company.

How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Unfortunately we are a pretty small trucking company, and I have been told that my budget is zero. Actually my boss stated that it was negative zero, so I guess I am worse off than others. That is why I am trying to build it myself. I have checked the Blue Claw link that you posted and sent them an email of whether or not that database was a free download and/or how much would it cost.

    Thank you for your reply.
