So if the user input is not valid the function ends and just returns an empty string and populates the field with empty string?

it populates it with what it already has but I can loop it until the user fixes it or it might skip that record (which is what I will use)

I think they are - I could force it to validate the user input but it might too much of a hassle if they want to force it to stop - I haven't checked if they press the x to close the dialog popup but I will do that all monday and give the update.
