    Arg...

ok this is a minor issue overall but I can not for the life of me figure it out. I just got upgraded to access 2013 a little while ago and when I view some databases the items in the object window do not have the 'default' spacing. In other words, if I page down 3 times in succession my window will refresh, then re-space everything and refresh again. This doesn't happen on all of the databases but it seems like a setting for the database got changed and I am having no luck finding out how to reset it to a default setting.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and how to fix it I will spin your straw into gold for the information.

The object window is the Navigation pane? Very odd. Does this happen with new db? Import to a new file?

I tried creating a new database from scratch and it has the same spacing issue, no clue what has happened (this isn't at my normal workplace) to cause this even on the creation of a new db. Paging up in the navigation window is ok, it's paging down that causes a problem, for instance if I'm at the top of the navigation pane and it's showing all objects (tables, queries, forms, reports, etc) and I drag the scroll bar all the way to the bottom and release, it will respace everything after the move and I will only be halfway down the list of objects as opposed to the last object. it's very frustrating when I'm used to whipping through that.

I really, really do not want 2013. Are they using 64-bit machine, 64-bit Windows (7 or 8), 64-bit Access? Who knows what combination could cause this. I am not aware of any option settings that would. Are there other computers at the site to test with?

it was a windows 7 machine so I'm pretty sure it's 64 bit, I tried playing around with screen resolution too to see if that could be the issue but that wasn't it either. The only testing I can do is in two different locations that I can not access at the same time so it's difficult to do side by side comparisons. The only thing I can think to do is to reinstall Access to try and restore the 'default' settings but that seems a bit heavy handed.

I have experienced strange behavior when using A2010 to upgrade mdb files, created with A2003, to accdb files. I believe the strange behavior ceased when I deleted the favorites/groups thing before publishing mdb files as accdb or I may have simply been opening mdb files created with earlier versions.

Anyway, I made a rule to delete the groups in mdb files before using A2010 to open the mdb files. I created a little religion that believes Access struggles to interpret previous version's groups. Newer versions use a different "system tables" structure to keep track of the objects in the nav pane. Seems like groups do not transfer over well. Could be other features that do not transfer over well too.

Well, I don't create special groups in any of my databases and this behavior is also happening in new databases (created from scratch) on the computer in question so I don't think it's a conversion issue.

Sounds like reinstall Access is next test. If that doesn't fix, reinstall Windows? If that doesn't fix, target practice?
