Adding numbers to a field in records in a form

Hi
My first post here.
I have a form with many records, and I need to enter a number in a field "DAY ITEM". I need to add the number 1 in the first record, and then 2 in the second record etc. THere are about 6,000 records so i was hoping there
may be some sort of macro or where I can add these numbers ( 1 through to 6000) into field rather then typing them in manually.

sorry, I feel so silly responding to my own thread , but I worked this one out, and I am posting in case someone else might not be sure how to do it.
I copied the table related to the form into an excel spreadsheet. THen I filled the column - "date item" (in excel) with the numbers in increasing order by one and starting with 1. This is easy to do in excel by highlighting the two first cells in the column, then left clicking the second cell's corner and dragging the mouse down to the required number of entries, in this case, 6,000. (THE FIRST two cells need to have the numbers entered manually, which is very easy with only two numbers - 1, and 2. THen, copy the column that the numbers were created, and go back to the access table, place the focus back onto the top cell (DATE ITEM) in the datasheet view of the field I need to put the numbers into, and press paste, and so wonderful - they were all there !! A simple solution.
