Splitting a field - entering a date range

I created a field called BENEFIT PERIOD for a date range.

I either need to be able to enter a date range OR split the date box into 2 fields.

ANy help would be appreciated. My split box is greyed out when I highlight the field I want to split in Layout view.

Why aren't you using two textboxes?

Explain what you are wanting to accomplish.

You want to save a beginning date and an ending date into a record?

Should be two fields and two textboxes.
