oh to be honest I have not tried it yet but will do with I the next hour. just sorting dinner out.

I really do need to rework this db. and your suggestion is prob the way way to go once I work it out lol. in using the db in real word use on hire and off hire dates are not needed. just one date would be needed which would be movement date.

how the yes/no or check box would be incorporated im not sure.

oh to answer about welfair unit its another form of plant. its lime a small caravan with kitchen, toilet and seating which is kept on site. as there may not always be facilities for people to use.

I kept that to its on table as they get PAT tested as well as serviced which and it would have been over my head to separate them from normal pant in queries.

Then I think the correct spelling would be welfare.

Could be a checkbox or a combobox with two value options (On, Off). The field could be yes/no or text.

Re: SQL to add new table to query

so with the yes/no sort of option are you suggesting that I just check yes to the current right location then check off no to all other locations that are past.

and in turn have a query that just reads the location that is yes/checket.

will this be simple enough todo in the current db or do you think I need to start over.

If you combine the two date fields and if it is important to know if the date is an On or Off type, then need a field to indicate that - either a yes/no or text.

Fixing the table is simple enough. I don't know what changes will be required in queries, forms, reports, code to accommodate the revised structure but can be done if you want.

Re: SQL to add new table to query

well I think it makes things more accurate in ways of reporting then its got to be the best ootion. it makes sence just to have the one date rather than then 2.
