Search Fields Queastion NEED HELP ASAP

I have a large database with lots of entries, my relationships across the forums are a # that are most often 6 numbers. Sometimes due to the item entered there are more than 6 numbers. These numbers are the KEYS that give each entry its individuality.

When I go to my form and i search for a particular number, it gives me the number but the one with the EXTRA character Ex. - 1234 (what I'm trying to find) it brings up 12345. i want the search to only bring up EXACTLY what i type and to NOT look for anything that may not match exactly.

Such as when I search, if a character is NOT entered it will not bring it up. So if i search for 1234 it WILL NOT bring up 12345 because i did not enter the 5. How can i do this?

ALL help is appreciated thank you.

    Please respond ASAP

(Please do not offer the response of adding another field to make all entries individual by another number/character, for this cannot be done due to the type of database I run, the #'s that are MANUALLY entered are the KEY for that entry, this idea has been tried and cannot work with this database)

Are your fields Integers or LongIntegers or Strings? How are you searching? What exactly do you do on your form?

They are normal Integers. When the POST form is OPEN at the bottom of the window next to the record box (where you can go from one record to the next) there is a small search box, here is where i enter my search to find a sepcific entry by its number. The form is used to enter the MAIN data on the database "The Initial Post"

So you are referring to the native search function built into the ac2007 Nav Buttons, right?

I doubt it. You will have to come up with your own search function.

You can start by replacing the native Nav Buttons with Stephan Lebans' buttons: http://www.lebans.com/recnavbuttons.htm
Then the ComboBox wizard knows how to look up existing records if you select option #3.
