    Cell phone carrier detection

Hello, Has anyone come up with a programatic way to detect a cell phone carrier, Ex. Sprint, Verizon, etc. I have found web sites where you can key in a number, and they can provide you some info. The info is reasonably accurate. But i'm hoping their is a programatic way.

    Thanks in advance for replying!!

    Crowegreg,

Just to clearify you are looking for software that can tell you the person carrier based on the phone number alone?

    Thanks,

Yes. I operate a business where I receive a request for a quote. I've created an Access DB to process the quote request. When I email a quote, I also send text messages to the phone number that is listed on the quote. So right now, I'm sending a text message via email to 20 different carriers. I've recently changed my web hosting for my web site, and I'm now receiving messages that I've exceeeded my allowed bad email addresses.

So I'm checking to see if anyone has created within Access the code to take the phone number, go out on the web and try and determine who is the cell carrrier. I know their are sites that you can manually key in the phone number and you'll receive that info.

When I changed my number from Verizon to another provider I asked to keep my Verizon number and they were able to do that. So what I'm thinking, and I may be wrong, I don't think that the phone # is always tied to certain cell phone provider.

You're correct. As time goes on, and more people switch carriers, the online information will be less likely accurate.
