Look up table creates many relationships is this bad?

I think the subject says it all but basically I was wondering, if I have a several look up tables when they are used a relationship is created. I am worried that this will creates many relationships which could be bad? Any suggestions would be great, thank you.

So my database is medical based database with several lookups. The lookups are all structured with 2 fields: an autonumber and then a list of values. For example one lookup is simply a list of bones, another lookup is a list of diagnosis, another lookup is a list of medications. Most of these lookups allow for multiple values. I actually deleted the relationships and lookups seem to work, is this poor form.

    Thank you,
    Lenny
