Hyperlinks in a split database

I recently split my database to have a front end and a back end. For the most part everything has worked well, however I have a field with hyperlinks to files on my computer that no longer work. There are over 2,000 records; is there an easy way to fix this problem?

splitting the db probably did not invalidate the hyperlink, it is coincidental I think.....but it is making a visable an issue that you were going to hit no matter what....

paths can be relative to your location when set - regrettably. So if you literally move the location of the PC (i.e. set up the FE on another PC) - the path isn't valid. My experience is that the process of setting the hyperlink has a variable user experience depending on the set up of the PC one is using; which isn't Access per se but rather the PC and it's drive mapping and such in microsoft networking...

I've seen situations where - when setting the hyperlink - you really have to intentionally move to the root of the machine (that has the target docs) in order to build the path (by clicking down thru folders) from the correct universal starting point of all the PCs - because the PC I was working on defaulted to a folder and the root was not being included in the path - and that path works on the one PC only and not all of them.

It is a hassle. Do a couple of experiments to get the sanity back; put the BE & FE on the same machine that was used to set the paths and see if that works - hopefully it does... just to see..... in any case put the BE & FE at the locations they need to be and reset a couple hyperlinks so they work at multiple FE locations...and try that at as many FEs as possible just to be sure.

Once you have the correct path - you will have to run an update query to change all the hyperlinks and it is a little tricky...you need to research the hyperlink function/method as there is 4 parts to the syntax.

My memory can't pull the details on this. But I've had clients with extensive hyperlinks that moved buildings and the new network had a different, but uniform, change in the path - and was able to update all the paths via an update query.

Hmmmn, this is interesting. I tried both suggestions 1) moving the BE and FE to the same location as the old database (that did not work) and I also tried 2) implementing the update query, I am not familiar with the update query but it didn't do what I wanted. It only changed the text that is displayed and erased the hyperlink alltogether. Is there any way you could give further instructions about the update query?

Actually, I re-tried putting the FE back on the same location and it worked........ I don't know why it didn't work the first time, but thats life. Thanks a lot for your help!
