You do not have the necessary permission to use the...MDB

I tried to open an access file but the error message is:

You do not have the necessary permission to use the C:\Users\...Payroll.mdb object. have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permission for you.

what do I do? I really need to use this file now.

Can you open any other file in that location?
Otherwise do as it says, talk to whoever controls permissions in your system.

Since this is a .mdb file it may be your permissions are managed by a .mdw file. The facility was deprecated 15 years ago when .accdb's became the new Access file format but should still be valid for .mdb's. see this link for more information
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...in-access-2010
or google 'access .mdw file' for more info

As to where your .mdw file would be - you'll need to do a search

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
