    Data File Explosions

Hi All, I'm running into an issue where my back end data file keeps getting very large very fast, but when I compact and repair it, it goes down to a very small, nice size. First of all, what types of operations could be causing this explosion of file size that's so easily remedied? And second, if I can't find the culprit and/or need a quick fix while I figure it out, what can I do to prevent it from exceeding the dreaded 2GB limit?

frequent delete/append of data of large amounts of data is the usual cause. Doesn't sound like you are using them but storing OLE objects or attachments will lead to bloat

We had a similar problem and theres 2 ways to handle this.

    1. Perform the compact and repair on a regular schedule.
    2. If there is a sql server database at your location you can use the built in access tool to convert your local access tables into links to your data now residing on the sql server database.

The nice thing about option 2 is the 2 gig limit goes away.
