Since users should not work directly with tables and queries, why is this important?

I do get the font dropdown and am able to set font for table in Datasheet view, not Design view. However, this does not carry over to form or report.

Set font of controls in forms and reports. Except Datasheet view of forms.

Agree with June but if you want to do so go to Access options...object designers.
    That affects the query designer

For other objects, use a theme that contains that font or, if nothing suitable exists, create your own theme.
However Comic Sans has gained a negative reputation over the years and may detract from how people perceive your app

Its the casualness that led to its bad rep.
Yes you can use it if you really want to...or any other standard Windows font.
You could even use Wingdings if you really want...but that would be a bit silly
