What is the best version to use

My 2010 version's product key is running out, should I get a new one or upgrade to 2016 or 365. What are the pros and cons. Can I save a database as a 2010 verion if I use 2016 or 365 so I can still use it and develop it at work instead of at home?

    Thanks

    Dave

    the key should be permanent.,
but all databases are backwards compatible.
no need to convert it into a new version.

Always develop in the lowest common denominator version.
So if you have users using 2010 or above then develop in 2010.

As ranman says - product keys don't expire normally?
