    Inventory Transfer Program

    Dear All

I hope some expert will help me on this.

We have 8 branches (Restaurants). Within the branches, they exchange inventory items on daily basis. I want one access program to be installed in each branch to handle this properly.

    - Assume one transaction between branch 1 and 2
    - Branch 1 orders some items from Branch 2 in the system
    - Branch 2 will see this in their system, and process the order and will send these items to branch 1
    - Branch 1 will receive these items and update in the system that they received these items.
    - Many of these transactions will happen between those 8 branches and in the end of the day we should be able to get few reports on inventory balances, transfers etc.

Can someone please guide and help me to develop a program in access to do something like this?

    Thanks
    AW

Not wishing to put you off but Inventory systems are not a trivial task to design and make work well. Even experienced developers would likely tell you this is a significant undertaking depending on the complexity required.
Do you need to record values of products?
Do you need to record stock batch numbers and product age, as well as the locations?

You need to really think about your requirements, inputs and outputs, very clearly before starting your design.

I agree with Minty. This is not something I would recommend you do yourself especially since it impacts your business in 8 locations. I expect that in the restaurant business you deal with goods having a "best before" attribute which gets you into a whole new realm of complexity (FIFO etc). Just the interchange of inventory "swapping" between locations is a complexity beyond a "simple" inventory.
I would suggest you spend some time identifying your real requirements--document them; make sure they are clear - confer with everyone involved to ensure all requirements (even the it would be nice if things) are identified as best you can. It will help you, and others involved, and any potential designers/builders to understand the scope of the project. It would also give you a shopping list when comparing your needs to "commercial software packages" that are available.

With separate locations, you might even consider something web based????

    Good luck with your project.

Or you must have a LAN with all 8 restaurants included. I work in a company with 17 different locations (factories, offices, etc.) in several countries. All locations are connected into single network using VPN (special hardware is used). This isn't cheap of-course!
