    EDI data into Access database

    Hi all,
Let me start by saying I know very little about Access, so apologies up front if I am not clear with what I am asking for.

Basically this is what I would like to achieve :

I receive weekly data form a retailer that sells my product lines. This data file comes in the form of an EDI file. What I would like to do is to integrate this EDI data into a database to allow me to track and monitor the performance of my products. Ultimatley I'd like to build a dashboard that can display this data in either a spreadsheet format or chart format to enable me to review performance. Can this be done using MS Access?

How would I go about achieving this? I would classify my skills as at "beginner" level. Please keep this in mind when offering any feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

lot of Access applications deal with importing data from 'other' systems...whether they be customers, vendors, or just other IT systems in the same company. So this is very common.

EDI - as I know it - is just a concept i.e. "electronic data interchange" and I'm not sure as to what specific file format and structure is involved. It is the file format & structure which is key, and presuming it is csv or xls or one of the many common ones then importing it will be no problem.

you import the data - and then are going to use queries, reports, charts to display the data as you need. This is what Access does.

Google shows programs that will translate EDI files to CSV files which Access or Excel can import directly.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
