Where are all the 'panels' gone ???

I think I mis a control called a PANEL - it was a good for containing other controls - you could move them as a whole in that container - the panel.

OK, today you can 'group' controls together but them they are NOT accessable individually.

Is panels really gone for good ?

There is something called "Layout" that seems similar to what you are describing. I never use layout - it is a huge PITA (IMO). I always uncheck "Enable Layout View". Also, in form design view, I set "Allow Layout View" to NO.

If I want to move a block of controls, I select all of the controls I want to move; once selected, the controls can be moved as a group - but no grouping necessary.

    I had/used A97 and A2K, but don't remember anything called "Panels".

What version of Access and where was it located? Menu bar? Database window?

I remember it as a "control" you could place on a form and place OTHER controls inside that panel ...

I have a DB from back then ... I'll try find it and look for it there.

I found a DB from back then - I think it's from Acc2K and I'm pretty sure I back then worked the way I told you, BUT ...

when I open the DB in Ac2007 today - what I remember as a PANELs shows up as a RECTANGLEs and does NOT function like a container of controls !

I think I have to live with that annoying behavior to remember to mark all controls I want to move ;-((

I've been on the Access train since v97, as well, and being retired for the past eleven years, spend 8-10 hours a day on this and a bunch of other Access sites, and I, too, have never heard of a Control named Panel! If that is the correct name, I'm guessing that it's from another development program, not MS Access.

The only thing that comes close is the Option Group Control, where you have any number of Controls (Checkboxes, Radio Buttons, etc.) within a 'frame,' if you will. They can be moved as a unit, but

    • The Controls have to all be the same type, i.e. all Checkboxes, all Radio Buttons, etc.
    • Only one of the Controls can be selected at any given point time

Panels are available in vb.net, webpage controls, but not in Office VBA.
