Cannot add more than 255 characters to a memo field when viewing the Table

When displaying the table, I can not add more than 255 characters to a memo field. I can type it in, but it disappears as soon as I go off that field. Can you only have more than 255 characters if you insert the information with a query rather than just typing it in?

you should be able to type as many chars as needed.
Queries WONT go beyond 255. (tho I thought I got 1 to do it) You can try.
I think I got transferspreadsheet to work.

    (thanks Microsoft)

I just ran a query showing the length of the memo field, and it is apparently adding the extra text to the memo fields when entered into the table directly even though this information is not being displayed in the table. Not the behavior I expected. I realize that in the forms and reports there is no Memo object - only textbox objects which hold 255 characters, but I guess I expected when looking at the table I could see more text. I thought I could in the past.

If I am missing something, please let me know.

forms DO hold the memo. Just drop the field on the form, and type beyond 255.

You are correct, the form does display it (my mistake). But it still seems odd that you can not see the full memo in the table.
