Good God Man, I'm a programmer, not a scientist. DOUBLES

Okay, for the past 5 years, I have blindly accepted the double as is. Now That I am in a career dealing with business functions, I want to be sure this is working for me.

    Double maximum is: 1.79769313486231570E+308

I'm not a scientist, in English, what is the maximum number?
    Too long to write out?
Does it come out as: 179,769,313,486,231,570.308?

That is a form of scientific notation for representing very large and very small numbers.

It means 'move the decimal point 308 places to the right'.

A - sign would mean move to the left.

    1.79769313486231570E+308 is the same as
179,769,313,486,231,570 with 291 more zeros to the right of it.
    It's called scientific notation.

Ouch, that is a lot of numbers.

I should be safe then since I'm not going past 500,000,000.

    Thank You
