Finding the External Data Wizard

Where is the External Data Wizard? I cannot find it.

Okay, which one is the Get External Data wizard? I see Excel, Access, ODBC, etc. I do not see
Get External Data wizard.

I suspect you are taking your course too literally.

where do you want to import your data from? if excel - click on the excel wizard, if text file, click on the text file wizard, etc

I suspected that and from the link at the beginning of this post I think it is text file that I am looking for.
I have not found a file RepairOrders. When I search for it, I get nothing. So I am defaulting to text. I
s there a RepairOrders file and if it exists where is it?

Again, where is the RepairOrders file? I use the Get External Data wizard to get it.
I am cannot find it. I am assuming it is a external file.

Did you download the RepairOrders file from the lesson resources? What folder did you save the RepairOrders file into? Navigate to that folder and select the file for import.

Okay, I think that I know what is wrong. At least I know how to complete Lesson 15.

In populating the Interests with the following:

C:\pap\index.htm
C:\pap\VillageLife.gif
C:\pap\VillageLife.gif
http://www.microsoft.com/office
http://www.microsoft.com/access
http://www.functionx.com/access


Two things are apparent :

1. There are two entries for C:\pap\VillageLife.gif

I checked the directory C:\pap\ on my C drive and there is no gif files in it at all, much less gif files with the same name.

Secondly, the web addresses :

http://www.microsoft.com/office
http://www.microsoft.com/access

Are out of date. So that is where I believe that I went wrong.

What should this be (no two or more files in the same directory with the same name)
and the out of date website addresses?

I think that if I can fix these then I can perform the lesson.

Those web addresses open web pages for me.

There would not be two files named VillageLife.gif. There would be two records in table referencing same file. Use whatever image file you want. Just make sure that is the name input into the records.

I did not download a RepairOrders file. I did a search on my hard drive and I did not find it. Should it be on my hard drive.

Should be if you downloaded or created the file.

If the website offers a download of this file then go get it, otherwise create one if you really want to experience the import.

The two website addresses :http://www.microsoft.com/office and :http://www.microsoft.com/access open to new websites such http://www.microsoft.com/en-us and http //www.microsoft.com/en-us where en-us is English US. These are Microsoft advertising sites and of no use to me. Wherever I go after that is blocked. Where I work a lot of sites are blocked.

Again should there be a RepairOrders file on my database or hardrive? If it should be there in what directory is it in? If I cannot find it, then where can I download it?

These website links are just to demonstrate opening a webpage in the web browser. Use whatever link you want.

We don't know if there should be a RepairOrders file on your computer. No idea where it could be downloaded from if at all. If the lesson does not offer instruction on this then you must take initiative and create file.

I also, believe that I must create the RepairOrders files if it is not there on the hard drive. I think it is there and it was accidentally erased. That is why I was asking this question.

To create do I give it a *.accdb extension? I am not sure. it is not a database unto itself, it seems part of a database.

The lesson instructions are to open the Import wizard and navigate to and select Resources.accdb then click RepairOrders therefore I conclude RepairOrders is a table in Resources.accdb.

Perhaps the db is one of these http://www.functionx.com/access/resources.htm
