Odd Behavior: Access Trying to Open Database when Being Opened

I have a weird thing happening. I tried to open an Access database earlier today. It has some data connections that were timing out, and it was timing out, so I just killed it, then deleting the backup and locking files it created.

I have the Microsoft Access button down in my taskbar. Now when I click it, instead of asking me to browse to the database I want, or open a new database, it keeps trying to open the database that had problems. So I tried opening Access from Programs instead, and it exhibited the same behavior. So I re-booted my computer, but no joy. It still keeps trying to open that problematic database whenever I try to open Access.

In using Access for over 15 years now, I have never seen this behavior before. How can I get it back to the default behavior, where I am allowed to browse to a database or open a new, blank database?

BTW, using Windows 7, Office 2007

    Thanks

yes, access will try to automatically repair the bad db.

open access, let it finish , then close access.
    its all yours again.

One of the issues with that is that there is come automated VBA code that runs upon opening the database, and we do not want it to run right now (it is only supposed to run on a certain day of the week). But your suggestion gave me an idea. I held down the shift-key when I opened it. Then I disabled the automated code, and manually ran a Compact & Repair. Then I re-activated the VBA code, and closed down the database.

I tested it out, and my Access button is now acting as it should again. Thanks for helping to get me on the right track again.
