    Troulbeshoot database

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone care to help me out troubleshooting/redesigning a database?

I can compress the file and send it here or via email.

There are lots of people that are willing to help. All you have to do is describe what your dB is used for and ask your question(s).

Here is a couple of tutorials if you are a little weak on table structure design.

Start with table design and normalization.

    Ssanfu,

    Thanks for your input.

    A little background first,

This database was initially created by a predecessors predecessor several years ago. That person has since left and can no longer be reached for troubleshooting. The guy who had given me this data base asked to have it updated and fit our current needs.

The main purpose of this database is to compile several pieces of information regarding an employee, so that as that employees training reaches expiration, certifications, reach expiration, or in the event that we need a phone roster, the information is quickly accessible. Where other systems typically used the members last four of their SSN, this system should used the employee ID number, called the EDIPI as the primary key for identification.

There are several items currently in this database that are simply to no use for me. Before I begin deleting tables, forms and queries, I need to know how that will affect the overall performance of the database.

Step by step, I'll show you my desired results and let you know of my problems I'm experiencing.

When the database starts, the startup screen with the privacy sensitive message appears. Click continue.- This screen works and doesn't require alteration.

after clicking continue, the Main Menu appears. I have only attempted to alter the personnel button. After clicking it, click view/edit personnel information.

I have created and modified this form to collect all the information I want to receive. My thought is that each employee will initially input all their information into this form, and that the information will be copied to a table. After initial input, the clerk can modify specific attributes of the individuals profile, for example, if the employee receives certification to drive a forklift, the clerk will find the employees profile, click licenses, check the box and enter the expiration date of the license. Later, when a supervisor asks who his forklift qualified employees are, the clerk can run a report to provide him with that information.

The problem I am running into is that the form is created and linked to an excel sheet on my desktop. If I input information into the spreadsheet, the form changes, but when I attempt to input information into the form, I am unable to input any information, therefore, unable to update the table.

Is this something you might be able to help me out with? If so, I can send a zipped file to you. Just let me know your address. any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

I will certainly look at it and see if I can help.

The problem I am running into is that the form is created and linked to an excel sheet on my desktop.
Why does it like to an Excel spreadsheet?
