Question Problem with Split Database - Need Help

I am running Access 2007 on two different machines. One machine is running XP, the other is running Vista Home. I was porting the Access 2007 database between the two machines with no problem until I split the DB on the Vista machine. Now, the split database will not open on the XP machine. Specifically, the Front End won't open, the Back End (data) will open on the XP machine. When I try to open the Front End on the XP machine, the screen just returns to the "Getting Started with Access" screen. I have allowed macros to be executed in the Trust Center.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I am not able to open the split database on the XP machine or how I can fix this? I am hoping to avoid going back to the version before I split the database as I have already entered a large amount of data to the split database and made some changes to the front end. Also, are there known incompatibilities among OS platforms and Access 2007?

    Thanks, Linda

well it should work. pure guess here - but what i would do is unsplit it ....port it back to xp and see if it then opens in xp; if so - split it while in xp...then see if it works in both.... none of this should matter - but if it ain't working then you gotta try something....

    Vista/XP Split DB Problem

Just an update: I unsplit the database on my Vista machine and opened it on my XP machine with no problems. Then I split the DB on the XP machine and now it won't open on my Vista machine, so that leads me to think that there is some incompatibility between the two OS's. Does anyone have any ideas?

The reason I want to split this database is so that I can work on the programs without having to bring the data home with me. I just want to leave the production data on the server. Is there any other way to accomplish this besides splitting the db?

More update: The split DB doesn't open on a Windows 7 machine either. So there must be something in the split DB that won't allow it to be opened. I have enabled all macros to be opened in the Trust Center. Any other places I should look?

    thanks,

    Linda

there is no OS incompatibility that I have ever heard of and I've done lots of dbs in both vista/xp that are split. with 07 there is a new Trust Center - and that must be set up correctly - regardless of the OS....

you should hold down the 'shift' key when opening. because your issue is with all OSs one would guess that you have some other issue involving splitting dbs or security or something.......

There is a autoexec that runs and tests whether the current project is trusted or not. If not, it is supposed to display a form informing the user that the current project isn't trusted. But, even holding down the shift key will not allow the programs to be opened. I am going to try disabling the autoexec and then splitting to see if the autoexec is the culprit. The basis for this project is the Charitable contributions template from the MS website.

If I get the split problem fixed, I will post my resolution.

Thanks and any other ideas, feel free to post.
