Question Switch from Internal to External Data

I have a front-end/back-end database that another programmer has done some work on for me. He worked on his own copy which wasn't linked to our data. Now I'm ready to integrate his work. What I would like to do is take his improved front-end and link it to the existing back-end tables. All the table names are the same, and none of the fields have changed. Is there an easy way to do this?

    Thanks, Rob

    Yes.
Go to the Tables section, right click, and select "Linked Table Manager".
Click the "Select All" button to select all your tables,
check the "Always prompt for new location" check box,
    and click "OK".

This should prompt your to browse where the tables are located. Browse to the location of the database you want to link it to.

This should re-point all your tables to the new location.

Currently the version he was editing doesn't have any linked tables. It is working with internal data. I want to remove the internal tables and replace them with external. If I delete the internal tables will that screw things up?

    Thanks, Rob

Well, one way around that would be to split the database he has. Then there will be separate a front-end and back-end, and the tables will be linked, and you will be able to use the method I explained.

That sounds like a reasonable workaround. Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
