Newbie Alert! Help to create Batch Number

    Hi

I've been given the task to produce a new database for the company I work for. Not really had much experience with Access apart from the data entry side.

I need to create a unique batch number from the date entered in a field and another text field. This needs to be created as soon as the text field has been entered.

I have tried to create an update query. (This will work but only if I shut the forms and reopen.) The table will also have two forms with data being enterend from different departments. As one department enters the values to create the batch number I would then need to other department to beable to pick up this batch number without having to keep shutting and reopening the forms or tables.

Hope this makes sense to someone! (think I have confused myself)

I would be greatful for any help.

I know your post is old I may be able to help you can you give me some more information about what you want to do. What kind of Auto numbers you want to generate. Numerical or Alpha numerical. A diagramatic representation of the work flow will be a great help.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
