Access my database over the web using FTP?

Hi all,



So I have made a database which I have split and am using at my place of work. Now people are requesting that I this database is accessible over the web. As I have already made the database is this easy to do? Also will the database act the same way as it currently does?

I would also like to use an FTP address to do this, is this possible and is it easy? I have never done anything like this so no idea. Any links to great sources would be amazing. I have found sharepoint info easily but via my works FTP I have not found anything useful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can certainly gain access to the DB file using FTP but it is not going to allow a user to open the file. Perhaps a VPN would be more appropriate.

I believe convention is to use a VPN and connect to your desktop via .RDP. The processing is done using the local desktop and data retrieval over the LAN.

Hi all,

Just so you know I went the VPN route and it works a charm on testing. Anyone know anything about how many users at the same time this will be stable enough for? Its an old server but reliable? Just an average guess would be good. Its a database with about 20 tables and 600 records. Just for my own interest to be honest.

If you can afford the power bill have all users leave their workstations on and RDP to their desktop. Open a front end file on the workstation that links to the back end file over the LAN.
