Link to MySQL on a Linux Box

    Hi all,

So I have a hopefully simple question. I have a report I am trying to automate in excel, I have all the pieces together except one. I need to connect to a sql database on a linux box. from there i can manipulate the data. Is there a specific setting i should be using to get this to attach to a MS Office program? Or is it even possible to do so? I have several routes I could take... a direct link to excel, a link to an Access database I have, or a web page that will connect to the data. The data I am trying to connect to is on FreePBX and there is a report for it already however the web page that is built in uses Java and PHP queries so i cannot manipulate the URL to my pleasing. All the data is on my company's intranet so no outside connections are needed. I do not know Java or PHP at all but know some HTML so getting a simple web page is nothing its the background queries I have no clue about. I know this is a bit confusing anything I can clear up I will.

    thank you!

    -Matt

i have investigated that however, and i could be wrong, it costs money for what i want it to do which is simply make a connection. and after doing much looking with almost that exact search line it seems all the results are for viewing FROM Linux. I want to be able to view from windows and without really spending anything other than time on it. thank you though that was my first stop when i started looking for a solution.

The text at end of the link I posted seems to describe connecting to MySQL database on Linux system through Windows ODBC. Nothing to buy, it's already part of Windows.

I have used that to connect to Oracle, SQLServer, dBase4; however, not on Linux.

Windows Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC)

Then follow the last 3 paragraphs of that article.
