Advise about an old access 97 application

Helloeveryone in the community. Luckily there are communities in web space.
I have someproblems win an old application software and I would very much begging you forsome help.

Thesoftware is an inventory and stores its data into .mdb files and runs underwindows XP.
The companythat created the software has closed and I have not support.
For thetime being I have 3 questions.
    1) I assume that the .mdb file versionis 97 but I am not sure. Is there a way to find it for sure. Please do notpropose me to write code.
    2) When I run the applicationinstallation program (setup) it install the app.
Note: The application does not require to have installed the Microsoft Access.
I am wondering what should I do to upgrade my system with the most suitableupdates so that my app to work better.

    3) Last but not least. Could youpropose any tools to repair the db?
    Thanks alot, in advance.

If Access is not required to be installed then you can't be using an mdb file which must be opened within Access app.

Do you know anyone running later versions of Access? Test the database there.

What's wrong with the database that needs repair?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
