Designing a .mdb file so it can remember things as they are entered

Hello, I am using access to develop an 'Inventory Record' for my company. The access file will simply be used as storage for what my excel file does, which is organize the information. I have to essentially have an efficient way for me to go back and check the past of a specific part number. For instance:
    Part number 1:

Stores when it arrived into inventory, how much, etc.
It then stores when/how much of the same part left inventory.
Next batch of the same part would continue onto this.

I am not sure if I should just have each field simply enter in the same data sheet and then use queires to filter out by part number.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have you looked at the Desktop Product Inventory database template available with Access? It is in the Small Business folder when you open Access.

I had no knowledge of its existence. Thank you very much for letting me know about that. Will this work just like any other database? Will I be able to call it's information from Excel? That is what I am ultimately doing, "combining" the current two different inventory tracking systems into one, so I can eliminate multiple places for entry.

This seems to be a bit more than I was looking for. I am simply looking for something that does inventory alone and I am afraind that if I mess with this, it will disrupt many relationships and queries.
In this template there is a 'Products' section that appears to just have one large table for every single product, but it will say everything that has happened to it. Would it be possible to design my own db with just this aspect of the template?

Since I don't know your business processes, can't really be specific but certainly you can build a db to suit your situation. The template might be useful as a learning tool. Otherwise, get a tutorial book and learn relational database principles, Access functionality, and, if you want customization, programming concepts (with macros and/or VBA).

Is it possible to remove the portions of this template that I do not want? I have tried looking at the relationships within it, but I am unable to.

Just took a look at that db. Turns out it is a web database. I've never had to use a web database but have looked at several. I know they are harder to edit and apparently converting to a normal db is not simple. Maybe someone has already done that, review http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/...d.php?t=219350
