Help with form and subform

I have a form with a sub form. If the user selects data from the subform first an error message displays because required fields on the main form has not been entered. One is not able to enter data. The form has to be closed and restarted. Is there any way to restrict someone entering data in the subform before they fill out required fields in the main form. Or the subform not to display until the main form's required fields have been entered.
