    Database

Hi im new here, but my manager is making a database within which you have 8 fields in which you can enter data and it will update on to a spread sheet.
We can also use these fields as a search function, but here is the problem when we search for say 4, a lot of 24's and 40's etc... come up, furthermore wqhen searching for a technicians name GR, the results will only show data with all the fields filled, there are some bits which have no data in the fields which we would like to bring up as well. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell us in plain English WHAT is the purpose of this database?
Also, in plain English, WHAT is the subject matter of the database?

You have told us nothing of this database - and we can not guess what you and your boss may be thinking.

Sorry, this is used for maintenance of motors, for each individual motor we have a carriage number, where it was taken from, what is the fault, what we did to fix it, who fixed it and when, the Power Supply Unit number and the Inverter Number.

This database's purpose is to keep track of what motor are coming out, what faults are occuring.
Before this we used paper and pen, and trying to find certain carriages and technicians used is difficult, so this is why we have made this.

Sounds like you are dealing with

    Motors
    Carriages (whatever they are)
    Locations
    Faults
    CorrectiveActionsWithDates
    Technicians
    PowerSupplies
    Inverters

I recommend you use these subjects, adjusted as you see fit, and work with this tutorial to get your tables, attributes and Relationships established to meet your business needs.

Get your foundation set up correctly, before getting into the nitty-gritty of Access.
    Good luck
