calculation difference (was can't figure this out)

So in Computer Information System class we are doing labs, we did an excel lab with data, and we are taking the data from there, put it into access, and were trying to do the calculations and what not.

well when we calculate 'Total Sales' (in excel) the number comes up a certain number (which is correct by any calculator), then when you do the same problem in access, it comes up $.01 to $.02 short or even a couple came up exactly right, asking the teacher about why its not matching up, he said he's noticed it in the past but never tried to figure out what's going on, he's been trying to figure out for 15 minutes and still doesn't understand what's going on?

question is: why is access coming up with slightly different numbers than what excel or any calculator comes up with?

Hard to say without seeing a sample of it. One possibility is that Access uses "bankers rounding" by default, which could make it produce a different answer.

Would have to know more about the data and calculations. Is Round function used? Is multiplication and/or division involved?
