    Someone help a Marine?

So if you did not notice from the title, I am a Active Duty Marine. Now dont get me wrong, I am not the brightest of the bunch being that i am a Marine but I have been through a Access course before and know my way around the program and can create databases for general uses. Now I am not asking you to do all my work for me so please don just close this thinking that I am trying to get some free database. There is a certain level of pride that I get from creating something and dont want someone to do it for me.

Sp to get down to the facts. The new unit that I am with has no orginization when it comes to requesting supplies for the supply marines to order. I noticed this and thought that access would be a good simple soultion as long as I can build it. The reason why im posting here is to get some advice or input before i jump into this. I was thinking or creating a data base that of course looks like a program. Marines within the unit could access it and place a request for supplies that would then shoot a email to the supply marines letting them know that there is a new request in access. This the easy part and I can create that with no problem. Now as I get deeper into this I want the database to remember items that have been requested. Reason being is becuse each item has to be looked up online through a few websites to find item numbers and avg cost. It would be easier that as we use this system it would develop a memory of items so when someone orders black printer ink again all the details would pop up and you would not have to go looking for it.

So first off anyone know of a template that I could download and start with. starting from scratch can lead to hours of general setup that is already done in many databases that just need some tweaking. I am not going to lay out everything I need to do with this program, I would like to start simple and then ask questions as I develop if you dont mind. If there is someone out there that is willing to help me out I will be more than willing to attempt to give something back to you for your time. Not sure what yet but I dont like to just look for a hand out.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for serving. You might want to look at this site which has a lot of schemas and you might find one that suits you to start.

And thank you for your service.

Not knowing exactly what you are looking for, Microsoft has a lot of templates available at http://office.microsoft.com
They are ugly and clunky, but maybe good enough to get started or to give you ideas. These are the ones I found that relate to orders:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=access&av=zac#pg:2|ai:TC102483123| Desktop Product inventory database
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=access&av=zac#pg:2|ai:TC001018547| Customer orders database
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=access&av=zac#pg:2|ai:TC001018458| Inventory management database
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=access&av=zac#pg:2|ai:TC001018548| Order management database

You could also check out the NorthWind example database.....
