    puzzling slowdown

    Hi everyone,

Hope this finds you well. This is my first post here so I'll try to provide as much information as I can to help you help me. I'm using Access 2007 MS Office 2007 Enterprise, and Windows XP Pro.

Overview - I have a database which houses data I collect online via Autohotkey. Basically, AHK goes to a site, refreshes the page, highlights the page, copies it to clipboard, and saves it to a text file, which is linked to the database. Once linked, AHK provides a keystroke to run a series of queries and what not, recalculating various statistics.

All this works fine and everything does what its supposed to do. However, on a daily basis now, between 2pm and 6pm, the database takes an unusually long time to refresh after an update. It works at normal speed say between 11-2 and 6-10, but between 2pm and 6pm, something is going on that I can't identify.

I first thought, maybe I have spyware that is programmed to do something during that time. All scans revealed nothing, but to be sure, I just reformatted the HD and reloaded the OS and software. This didn't fix the problem. I tried closing and reopening the database, Compact and Repair, both of which had little or no effect. Finally I imported all the objects into a new Access container, which actually appeared to help a little, but not significantly.

I'm out of ideas, so I come to you masters of the universe to see if you can shed some light on the matter. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Look at Windows Task Manager during the various periods. Any unusually demanding process running during 2-6 not running during other periods?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

A nice idea, but I have looked at it to see if something came alive during this period, but nothing seemed to stand out. As you've suggested, however, it probably wouldn't hurt to take a closer look at the processes. Oddly, at this very moment, I'm in that time frame and the problem isn't occuring. Think I'll take a quick screen shot of Task Manager processes for later reference.

I do expect the issue to recur though, so any other thoughts/ideas would be nice.

    Thanks for the input.
