Cannot Embed bmp images with Access 2010

I began using an Access 2003 database running on XP to run a small preschool. Last year I suddenly encountered difficulty embedding the (postage-stamp size) images (.bmp’s) of our current students, which I had previously been able to do successfully by installing Microsoft Photo Editor (from an old Office 2000 disk) until that program rather mysteriously stopped working at the same time on both my home computer and my office one.

When I got a new computer for my home, I bought and installed Access 2010 onto that computer and for a year I have been bringing the school database home on a thumb drive to load pictures, then updating the database every time I returned to work.

We finally got a Windows 7 computer at work along with Access 2010. But I am not able to load the .bmp images into this database on this computer. When I attempt to insert an image, it returns icons (I do NOT check the box that says “display as icon”). It does the same thing if I check “link” to the file. I’ve checked all the database settings, they are identical on both computers. The pictures that are already loaded do display, and I can even cut and paste a previously loaded picture from the database into another child’s record and it loads. But I can’t insert new pictures (made/saved with the same program, Photoscape) with the new computer. Can anyone tell me how to remedy this?

    There is registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\BMP\(Default)
Make it's value the same as at "good" computer.
    ("Paint.Picture" - if I still remember correct)

    Max,
I do not find that registry entry. Could it be .bmp? I also have Win7 (64bit).
