Exporting to Excel- losing data from combo box

I needed to create a small database to record inventory. One of the fields is based on a combo box so only valid part numbers would be entered. The table worked well but when I had export it to Excel the part numbers did NOT come over. I guess it's the record number that did export. I have Access 2003 and Excel 2007. I asked someone with the latest versions of both to try it and it still didn't work. This seems like it should be so simple. I took Access a decade and ago and thought it was coming back to me.

You set Lookup in table field? Review http://access.mvps.org/access/lookupfields.htm
Export a query that is a join of the tables. This will make the part number field available for the export.

I tried that but still had problems. Then I went back and changed the Bound Column to 1 and it worked. Does that make sense?

I have not done much exporting of data and I don't set lookups in table, so not sure, would have to see the combobox RowSource sql statement. Which field is retrieved as column 1?
